SEL Shaders FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I turn on SEL Shaders after installing it?
Open the Options menu in-game, go to Video Settings, then select Shaders. Find SEL Shaders in the list and click it to activate. You'll see the shader take effect immediately on your world.
Why does my game look washed out or too bright with this shader?
This is usually a brightness or gamma setting issue. Open the shader settings (look for a Settings button in the Shaders menu) and adjust the brightness and contrast sliders to match your preference. You can also tweak the color tone settings to get the fantasy look you want.
Can I use SEL Shaders with resource packs?
Yes, SEL Shaders works well with most resource packs and is designed to enhance vanilla textures. Load your resource pack normally through the Resource Packs menu—the shader will layer on top of it.
My FPS dropped a lot after enabling the shader. How do I fix this?
SEL Shaders is optimized for low-end systems, but you can improve performance further by disabling optional features like shadow quality, water reflections, or waving leaves in the shader settings. Lowering your render distance also helps significantly.
Why do some blocks or mobs look strange or have visual glitches?
This usually happens with modded blocks that aren't compatible with the shader's lighting system. Check the Troubleshoot Visual Glitches guide for solutions, or try disabling custom lighting temporarily to see if that's the cause.
Does this shader work with Optifine?
SEL Shaders is designed to work independently and may conflict with Optifine's shader system. Use one or the other, not both, for the best experience.
How do I make the water look better with this shader?
Water improvements are built-in, but you can enhance them further by opening the shader settings and adjusting the water transparency and reflection intensity sliders. See the Enhance Water and Reflection Appearance guide for detailed steps.
Can I use SEL Shaders on a multiplayer server?
Yes, shaders are client-side only, so they won't affect the server or other players. You can use SEL Shaders on any server you can normally join.
Why do leaves and grass not wave even though the shader has this feature?
The waving effect might be disabled in your shader settings. Open the shader options and look for a toggle for animated foliage or waving leaves, then enable it. Make sure your performance settings aren't set to minimum quality.
Does SEL Shaders change how mods like Better End or Twilight Forest look?
SEL Shaders applies its lighting and color system to modded dimensions, which can change their appearance. If you want the original look, you can disable the shader temporarily or adjust the color tone settings to be more neutral.
