Adjust Shadow Intensity and Softness
Access Shader Settings
Press the shader menu key (default: K) while in-game to open the RtfShader configuration panel. This menu lets you fine-tune how shadows appear across your world.
Modify Shadow Parameters
Look for shadow-related sliders in the menu. You can adjust:
- Shadow softness: Increase this value to make shadow edges blend more naturally with lit areas. Lower values create sharper, more defined shadows.
- Shadow distance: Control how far shadows render from your character. Reducing this can improve performance on lower-end systems.
- Shadow intensity: Darken or lighten the shadow areas themselves to match your preferred contrast level.
Test Your Changes
After adjusting settings, watch how shadows move across terrain and builds as the sun or moon travels. Pay attention to areas under trees and overhangs—these show shadow softness most clearly. If shadows look too harsh, increase softness. If they're too faint, boost intensity. You can toggle the shader on and off with the menu to compare before and after.
