Rtf Shader FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I turn on RtfShader after installing it?
Open your Options menu in-game, go to Video Settings, then select Shaders. Find RtfShader in the list and click it to activate. You'll see the shader take effect immediately on your world.
Why do my shadows look too harsh or too soft?
Open the shader options menu (usually by clicking the Settings button next to the shader name in Video Settings) and adjust the Shadow Intensity and Shadow Softness sliders to your preference. Lower intensity makes shadows more subtle, while higher softness creates smoother shadow edges.
Can I make water reflections look more realistic?
Yes—access the shader settings and look for Water Reflection or Water Clarity options. Increasing these values will make the sky and surroundings reflect more clearly on water surfaces, though higher settings may impact performance slightly.
The mod makes dark caves too bright—how do I fix this?
Adjust the Brightness Balance setting in the shader options to reduce how much light spreads into dark areas, or lower the overall brightness slider. This will restore more contrast while keeping lit areas visible.
Why are my leaves and crops moving so much?
RtfShader applies wind effects to foliage by default. You can reduce or disable this in the shader settings by adjusting the Wind Intensity or Foliage Wave options to suit your preference.
Does RtfShader work with Optifine or other shader mods?
RtfShader is designed to work independently and should not be used alongside other shader packs. If you have Optifine installed, you can still use RtfShader, but disable any other shaders to avoid conflicts.
My FPS dropped a lot after enabling this shader—what can I help?
Try lowering Shadow Quality, Water Reflection detail, or overall render distance in the shader settings. You can also reduce your game's Video Settings (like render distance or graphics mode) to improve performance.
Do colored lights from torches and lanterns work everywhere?
Colored lighting works on most light-emitting blocks like torches, lanterns, and glowstone, but the effect depends on the shader's light detection. Some custom or modded light blocks may not cast colored light if they're not recognized by the shader.
Can I use RtfShader in multiplayer or on servers?
Yes—shaders are client-side only, so they won't affect other players or cause server issues. Everyone sees the world differently based on their own shader settings.
Why do my screenshots look washed out or too dark compared to what I see in-game?
This is often due to exposure or tone-mapping settings in the shader. Check the shader options for Exposure, Brightness, or Contrast sliders and adjust them to match how the world looks when you're playing.
