ReasonableView Shaders FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I turn on ReasonableView Shaders after installing it?
Launch Minecraft with Iris installed, go to Options > Video Settings > Shaders, then locate and select ReasonableView Shaders from the list. The shader will activate immediately.
Why are my caves still too dark even with this shader?
Open the shader settings (usually by pressing a hotkey in-game or through the shader menu) and increase the cave brightness or ambient light slider. You can also adjust the shadow intensity to reduce how dark shadowed areas become.
Can I use ReasonableView Shaders with resource packs?
Yes, ReasonableView works with most resource packs, but PBR-enabled packs will show the best results since the shader supports PBR material rendering. Some packs may look different than intended if they weren't designed with shader support in mind.
My FPS dropped a lot after enabling the shader. What can I do?
Lower the shadow quality or distance in shader settings, disable volumetric clouds, or reduce render distance. ReasonableView is designed for medium hardware, so these adjustments should help without losing the core visual style.
Why do my light sources look weird or too bright?
Check the colored lighting intensity setting in the shader options—you may need to dial it down if sources like torches or lava feel oversaturated. Also ensure your resource pack isn't conflicting with the shader's light color definitions.
Does ReasonableView work on servers or only single-player?
Shaders only affect your client-side rendering, so they work on servers without any special setup. Other players won't see your shader effects, and the server won't be impacted.
How do I make water reflections look better?
In shader settings, increase the reflection quality or water surface detail slider. You can also enable screen-space reflections if available, though this uses more performance—adjust based on your hardware.
Can I use ReasonableView with Optifine instead of Iris?
ReasonableView is built for Iris and won't work with Optifine. You need Iris installed as your shader loader for this pack to function.
Why do clouds look flat or weird in my world?
Volumetric cloud quality can be adjusted in shader settings—increase the cloud detail or density slider for better depth. If clouds still look off, try disabling and re-enabling the shader, or check that your render distance isn't set too low.
Does this shader change how bright day and night are?
ReasonableView maintains vanilla brightness levels so day and night feel natural without making either too dark or washed out. You can fine-tune overall brightness in shader settings if you prefer a different look.
