Random Chunk Data Pack FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

Do I need to start a new world or can I use this on an existing one?
You can use it on an existing world, but only unvisited chunks will transform into solid columns—any chunk you've already explored will keep its normal terrain. Starting fresh gives you the full experience of discovering randomized landscapes.
How do I know when I'm entering a new chunk?
Chunk borders are invisible in-game, but you'll see an obvious visual change: a sudden wall or pillar of a single block type appears as you cross the boundary. The guides on chunk navigation can help you map these transitions deliberately.
Can I control which blocks appear in new chunks?
No, the mod selects randomly from its 10 block groups each time you enter a new chunk. You can only choose which block groups are active (like excluding Nether blocks if you prefer), but not predict individual results.
What happens to caves and underground structures?
Caves, mineshafts, and all underground features are completely replaced by the random block type filling that chunk from bottom to sky limit. There are no hollow spaces or natural structures in newly generated chunks.
Do already-mined blocks respawn or stay gone?
Blocks you mine stay gone—they don't respawn. Once you harvest materials from a chunk's solid column, that space becomes empty air.
Can I get wood, food, or other survival essentials from random chunks?
It depends on luck: if a chunk fills with wood or wool, you can gather those materials easily. If it fills with stone or concrete, you'll need to explore further or find a chunk with useful blocks. The survival guide covers strategies for handling unlucky chunk rolls.
Does this mod work with other mods or datapacks?
It should work with most mods, but conflicts can occur if other mods also modify chunk generation or terrain. Test it with your other mods to be sure, and disable conflicting datapacks if terrain doesn't generate correctly.
Why is my world lagging or running slowly?
Massive solid columns of blocks can impact performance, especially if your render distance is high or you're on older hardware. Try lowering render distance or using a faster block type (like dirt instead of dense materials) if performance drops.
Can I see which blocks are in each chunk group before I start?
The mod description lists the 10 block groups (Wood, Stone, Wool, Concrete, Terracotta, Nether blocks, End blocks, Metals, and Miscellaneous), but you'll discover the exact block variety by exploring and entering new chunks.
What's the best strategy for building in a world where every chunk is one solid block?
Look for chunks filled with building-friendly blocks like wood, concrete, or terracotta, then use those as your foundation. The building guide explains how to work with uniform landscapes and create structures that stand out against single-block terrain.
