Use Hash IDs to Locate Text Strings in Your Game Files

Understanding Hash IDs

Pseudo Localization assigns a unique Hash ID to every line of text in the game. This ID appears alongside the distorted text, letting you trace exactly where a string lives in your mod's code or language files.

Find a String's Location

1. Enable Pseudo Localization

2. Locate the text you need to find in-game (in a menu, tooltip, chat, or sign)

3. Note the Hash ID displayed next to or below the distorted text

4. Open your mod's language files (usually .json or .lang files in your resource pack or source code)

5. Search for the Hash ID using your text editor's find function

6. The matching entry shows you the exact string and its file path

Why This Matters

Instead of searching through hundreds of lines for a single phrase, the Hash ID takes you directly to it. This is invaluable when:

  • Fixing typos or grammar in specific strings
  • Updating translations
  • Debugging text that displays incorrectly
  • Localizing your mod into other languages
