Remove or Reset a Portal Link

Clearing a Colored Portal Connection

If you want to disconnect a linked portal pair or restore a portal to vanilla behavior, purple dye is your tool.

Steps

1. Locate the colored portal frame you wish to unlink.

2. Obtain purple dye. Craft or gather this item as you would any other dye.

3. Right-click the portal frame with the purple dye. The frame will lose its color and return to its default obsidian appearance.

4. Confirm the reset. The portal now behaves like a standard vanilla Nether portal and will follow normal travel rules.

What Happens After

  • The dye color you were using becomes available again for a new portal pair.
  • If you had a matching partner portal, it remains colored but is now unpaired and will revert to vanilla behavior.
  • You can re-dye either portal with a new color to create a different link.

Note

Purple dye is the only color that clears links—all other dyes will create or modify connections. If you accidentally dye a portal with the wrong color, use purple to reset it first.
