Link Two Portals Across Dimensions

Setting Up Your Portal Pair

To connect a Nether portal to an Overworld portal (or any two portals in different dimensions), you'll need matching dye colors and access to both portal frames.

Steps

1. Choose your dye color. Select any dye except purple—this will be your link identifier. Common choices include red, blue, or green for organization.

2. Dye the first portal frame. Right-click the obsidian frame of your first portal with the dye item. The frame will change color to match.

3. Travel to the other dimension. Use your newly colored portal to reach the Nether (or return to the Overworld).

4. Dye the second portal frame. Right-click the obsidian frame of your destination portal with the *same dye color*. Both portals must match exactly.

5. Test the link. Step into either portal. You should now travel directly to its matching partner instead of following standard vanilla portal rules.

Important Notes

  • Each dye color can only link one pair of portals. Using the same color on a third portal will break an existing link.
  • Uncolored portals continue to work normally and won't interfere with colored links.
