Paper Books Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I craft a paper book?
Arrange 9 paper in a crafting grid (filling all 9 slots) to create one book. This replaces the vanilla recipe that requires leather, making books much easier to mass-produce if you have a sugarcane farm.
Do I still need leather to make books?
No—the mod completely replaces the vanilla recipe, so leather is not required at all. You only need paper.
Can I still use the old leather recipe?
No, the mod overrides the vanilla recipe entirely. If you need the old recipe, you would need to disable this mod or use a recipe manager mod to restore it.
Does this work with automatic sugarcane farms?
Yes—since books now only require paper, any sugarcane farm that feeds into a paper crafting system becomes a fully automated book production line, which is ideal for enchanting setups.
How many books can I make from one stack of paper?
Since each book requires 9 paper, one stack of 64 paper yields 7 books with 1 paper left over.
Does this mod affect bookshelves?
The mod does not change how bookshelves are crafted, but because books are now easier to obtain, building bookshelves in bulk becomes much more practical.
Will this mod work in my modpack?
Yes—Paper Books Mod is lightweight and minimalist, so it has no known conflicts with farming, automation, or building-focused modpacks. It only changes the book recipe.
Does this affect enchanting table power?
No—books crafted with this mod function identically to vanilla books, so bookshelves around an enchanting table work exactly the same way.
Can I use paper books in anvils and lecterns?
Yes—paper books are fully compatible with all vanilla mechanics that use books, including anvils, lecterns, and enchanting tables.
Does this mod have a performance impact?
No—Paper Books Mod is a simple recipe change with no additional blocks, entities, or complex systems, so it has negligible impact on performance.
