Optimize Performance While Keeping Visual Quality

Identify Performance Bottlenecks

Open the shader settings menu and look for options related to shadow quality, reflection detail, or atmospheric effects. OffShades draws from multiple shader sources, so there are usually several quality tiers available.

Reduce Shadow Resolution

Shadows are often the biggest performance cost. Find "Shadow Map Resolution" or "Shadow Quality" and lower it one step. You'll still get defined shadows—OffShades is designed for balance—but your frame rate will improve noticeably.

Disable or Lower Atmospheric Effects

Look for settings like "Volumetric Fog," "God Rays," or "Atmospheric Scattering." These add visual polish but cost performance. Disable them entirely for a quick boost, or set them to "Low" if you want some atmospheric depth without the hit.

Adjust Reflection and Water Quality

Water reflections and screen-space reflections can be expensive. Lower these to "Medium" or "Simple" if needed. OffShades still renders water beautifully at lower settings.

Test and Iterate

After each change, load a chunk-heavy area (like a big build or forest) and check your frame rate. Make small adjustments until you find the sweet spot between visuals and performance.
