How to Get Started with Occultism: First Chalk, First Ritual, First Spirit

Gather the basics

Mine Silver Ore and smelt it into Silver Ingot, then craft Silver Sacrificial Bowl and Chalk Brush. Craft White Chalk first; it is the entry-level chalk for simple circles. You will also need Spirit Fire, made with the occultism:spirit_fire recipe, to ignite rituals.

Your first summon

Draw a chalk circle on the ground with the Chalk Brush and White Chalk. Place a Silver Sacrificial Bowl in the center. Put the required offering inside, then light it with Spirit Fire. A Foliot appears. Capture it with a Book of Binding: Empty to get Book of Binding: Foliot (Bound).

Use the bound spirit

A bound Foliot book lets you craft calling books: Book of Calling: Foliot Farmer, Book of Calling: Foliot Janitor, Book of Calling: Foliot Lumberjack, and Book of Calling: Foliot Transporter. Each assigns the spirit to a job. Place the calling book where you want the spirit to work.

Move up tiers

Once you have Foliot working, gather Iesnium Ingot by smelting Iesnium Ore or crafting from Iesnium Nugget. Use Iesnium Ritual Bowl for higher-tier summons such as Djinni, Afrit, and Marid.
