Navigate Caves Without Getting Lost

The Challenge

No Light No Color! Shaders makes caves extremely dark and monochromatic. Without careful navigation, it's easy to lose your way and become disoriented.

Navigation Strategies

Mark your path with torches. Place torches on one side of blocks (e.g., always on your right) as you explore. This creates a visible trail back to the entrance. The torches remain visible even in darkness because they emit light.

Use a secondary marker system. Combine torches with wool blocks or other distinctive materials placed at intersections. This helps you remember which passages you've already explored.

Stay near light sources. Don't venture far from your torch trail. The further you go into complete darkness, the harder it becomes to judge distance and direction.

Bring extra torches. Carry a full stack. Running out of markers deep underground is dangerous—you may not find your way back.

Map mentally or on paper. Track major turns and intersections. Note which direction leads back to your entrance.

Emergency Exit

If you're lost, dig upward in a staircase pattern. You'll eventually reach the surface, though you may not return to your starting point.
