Maintain Color Vision in Dark Areas

Why Colors Fade

Under No Light No Color! Shaders, blocks lose their color as ambient light decreases. Deep underground or at night, the world shifts toward grayscale. This is intentional—the shader uses light level to determine color saturation.

How to Keep Colors Visible

Place light sources strategically. Torches, lanterns, campfires, and other bright blocks emit light that preserves color in their radius. The closer you are to a light source, the more vivid your surroundings appear.

Carry torches while exploring. Hold torches in your off-hand or place them as you move through caves. This creates a mobile zone of color around you.

Use brighter light sources for larger areas. Lanterns and soul lanterns cast light further than torches. Consider building temporary beacon towers or placing glowstone if you need to illuminate a wide workspace.

Return to the surface. Sunlight restores full color instantly. If you need to see block colors clearly, step outside during the day.

Building in Low Light

If you're building underground, surround your workspace with torches or lanterns before placing blocks. This lets you see the true colors of your materials and plan your design accurately.
