MCL Shaders FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I turn on MCL Shaders after installing it?
Open your video settings in-game, find the Shaders option, and select MCL Shaders from the list. The shader will activate immediately and you'll see shadows and lighting effects appear in your world.
My game is lagging with shaders on. What should I do?
Switch to the Medium profile instead of High in your shader settings—this reduces shadow detail and processing load while keeping most visual improvements. If lag persists, lower your render distance or disable foliage animation.
Why do my shadows look too dark or too light?
Go to shader options and adjust the Shadow Darkness slider to your preference. You can also fine-tune Shadow Quality to find the balance between visual detail and performance that works for your setup.
Can I use MCL Shaders with other mods?
MCL Shaders works with most mods, but mods that heavily modify lighting, water, or terrain rendering may conflict. Test your mod combination in a test world first to check for visual glitches.
How do I make water look more reflective?
Open shader settings and look for water reflection or water quality options. Increasing these values will make water surfaces mirror more of the sky and surroundings, though it uses more performance.
Why aren't my tree leaves moving?
Foliage animation is a separate toggle in shader options—make sure it's enabled. If it's on but you see no movement, check that you're looking at trees in loaded chunks and not too far away.
Do colored light effects from torches and glowing blocks work everywhere?
Yes, colored lighting from torches, lanterns, and glowing blocks spreads realistically through your world. The effect is most visible at night or in dark caves where the contrast is clearer.
Will MCL Shaders work on low-end hardware?
MCL Shaders is designed for medium and high-end systems. If your device struggles, use the Medium profile and disable optional features like foliage animation, or consider a lighter shader pack.
Why do shadows look weird on mobs or moving objects?
Shadow rendering on dynamic objects like mobs is more complex and may appear slightly offset or simplified compared to terrain shadows—this is normal and helps maintain performance.
Can I adjust how much the grass and leaves wave?
Foliage animation is typically an on/off toggle in shader settings rather than an intensity slider, though the effect intensity may depend on your profile choice and overall shader configuration.
