Understanding Attack Timing and Reach Changes

How Malfu Combat Affects Your Swings

Malfu Combat Data Pack modifies when your attacks connect and how far they reach compared to vanilla Minecraft. Each weapon now has custom timing tied to its unique animation—you can't rely on instant hits anymore.

Adapting Your Fighting Style

Before engaging mobs, observe your weapon's swing animation fully. Your attack will land at a specific point in the animation sequence, not at the start. This means:

  • Timing matters: Swing slightly before the enemy reaches you, accounting for the animation delay
  • Reach varies by weapon: Larger weapons may have extended reach, while smaller ones require you to get closer
  • Test in low-stakes fights: Practice against weak mobs like zombies to learn when each weapon actually connects

Pay attention to the visual cues—the animation itself shows you when damage applies. Different weapon types from Simply Swords, Cataclysm, and Simply More Weapons will feel distinctly different, so don't assume all swords behave the same way.

This system rewards patience and positioning over button-mashing, making combat more deliberate and skill-based.
