Reduce Lag and Improve Frame Rate

Switch to a Lower Performance Profile

If you're experiencing frame rate drops, the fastest solution is to select a lower performance preset. Go to Shader Options and choose Low or Potato mode. This disables or reduces the most demanding features like path-traced lighting and detailed reflections.

Disable or Reduce Individual Effects

If you want to keep most visual features, selectively disable expensive settings:

  • Path Tracing Samples: Reduce this value to lower the quality of global illumination
  • Shadow Quality: Lower shadow resolution and softness
  • Bloom: Disable or reduce bloom intensity around light sources
  • Reflection Distance: Shorten how far reflections render

Monitor Performance

Press F3 to open the debug overlay and watch your FPS counter. Make one adjustment at a time and test for 30 seconds to see the real impact. This helps you identify which settings affect your frame rate most.

Consider Render Distance

If shader settings alone don't help, reduce your world render distance in Video Settings. Shaders must process lighting for every loaded chunk, so lower render distance significantly improves performance.
