Kinetic Minecart Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I turn on the mod?
Open your configuration file and set `enabled` to `true`. If you're playing singleplayer, you can also use the in-game configuration menu to toggle the mod on or off without restarting.
What speed does a minecart need to deal damage?
Minecarts moving at speed 2 or below deal no damage. At speeds between 2 and 6, damage equals velocity squared; at speed 6 and above, damage equals velocity cubed, dealing much more severe hits.
How do I protect my pets from minecart damage?
Set `excludePet` to `true` in your configuration file. This prevents all tamed pets from taking damage when hit by minecarts.
Can I stop minecarts from hurting players?
Yes, set `excludePlayer` to `true` in the configuration. Players will no longer take damage from minecart collisions, though they will still be knocked back if knockback is enabled.
What's the difference between Collide and Radius detection modes?
Collide mode only damages entities the minecart directly touches, while Radius mode damages all entities within a configurable range (3-10 blocks) around the cart as it moves.
How do I protect passengers riding inside a minecart?
Set `excludePassenger` to `true`. This prevents any entity sitting inside the minecart from taking damage, which is useful if you're transporting mobs or other entities.
Can I exclude specific mobs from taking minecart damage?
Yes, enable `enabledExclusionList` and add entity identifiers (like `minecraft:creeper` or `minecraft:zombie`) to the `exclusionList` array. Those mobs will never take damage from minecarts.
Does knockback scale with minecart speed?
Yes, the knockback distance matches the cart's speed, so faster minecarts push entities farther away. You can disable knockback entirely by setting `enabledKnock` to `false`.
Will minecarts damage dropped items?
By default, no—`excludeItemEntity` is set to `false`, meaning items are protected. If you want minecarts to destroy dropped items, set this to `true`.
Can I use DirectlyKill mode instead of TieredDamage?
Yes, set `selectedDamageMode` to `DirectlyKill` to instantly eliminate mobs on collision instead of using the speed-based damage calculation. This is useful for creating one-hit railway traps.
