Optimize Shader Performance on Lower-End Hardware
Identify Performance Bottlenecks
Open your shader settings and look for options labeled path-tracing quality, shadow resolution, or lighting detail. These directly impact frame rate.
Reduce Computational Load
Start by:
- Lowering path-traced bounce quality or distance (reduces realistic light bouncing)
- Decreasing shadow softness resolution (keeps shadows sharp but faster)
- Disabling or reducing atmospheric effects if available
- Lowering overall lighting detail to a simpler mode
Test and Balance
Make one change at a time and check your frame rate in different environments—caves, open sky, and dense forests stress the shader differently. Many players find that reducing bounce distance slightly has minimal visual impact but significant performance gains.
If performance remains poor, consider using a lighter shader preset if available, or ensure your render distance and other Minecraft settings aren't compounding the load. Shaders are most demanding in complex terrain with many light sources.
