Incremental Shaders FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I turn on Incremental Shaders after installing it?
Open your Video Settings, go to Shaders, and select Incremental Shaders from the list. The shader will activate immediately and you'll see the lighting changes take effect.
Why does my world look too dark with this shader?
Check the Lighting Intensity setting in the shader options—you can increase it to brighten caves and indoor areas. You can also adjust Ambient Occlusion strength to control how dark shadows appear.
How do I make torches and lanterns glow with color?
Colored lighting is enabled by default, but make sure the Colored Light option isn't disabled in your shader settings. Place light sources near blocks you want to illuminate, and the colored glow will spread naturally across nearby surfaces.
Does this shader work with other mods?
Incremental Shaders works with most mods, but custom blocks from other mods may not receive colored lighting effects unless the mod is specifically designed to support shaders. Mods that add custom light sources work best.
My FPS dropped a lot after installing this. How do I fix it?
Lower the Shadow Quality or disable Path Tracing in the shader settings to improve performance. You can also reduce render distance or disable Ambient Occlusion if you're on lower-end hardware.
Why do shadows look weird or blocky?
This is usually caused by Shadow Quality being set too low. Increase the shadow resolution in shader options, or adjust the Shadow Softness slider to create smoother transitions between light and dark areas.
Can I use this shader in the Nether and End?
Yes, Incremental Shaders works in all dimensions. The lighting will adapt to the unique colors of each dimension—the Nether's red tones and the End's dark atmosphere are both enhanced.
How do I make water look better with this shader?
Water reflections and clarity are improved by default, but you can enhance them further by adjusting Water Reflectivity and Wave Intensity in the shader settings. The water will show more realistic light interaction with the sky.
Does this shader affect my world's brightness settings?
No, the shader works independently of your game's brightness slider. You can adjust both separately—use your brightness setting for overall screen comfort and the shader's Lighting Intensity for in-world lighting balance.
Why do some blocks not receive colored light from nearby torches?
Colored lighting has a limited range and only affects blocks within a certain distance of the light source. Move light sources closer together or increase the Colored Light Range in shader settings if available.
