Maximize Colored Light Effects from Light Sources
Understand Colored Illumination
Incremental Shaders automatically renders colored light from torches, lanterns, and other emissive blocks. This light bounces realistically onto nearby surfaces, creating warm or cool tones depending on the light source.
Position Light Sources Strategically
Place torches and lanterns to:
- Illuminate key areas with warm orange tones
- Create depth by layering light sources at different heights
- Use lanterns in water for blue-tinted reflections
- Build light structures (chandeliers, sconces) to see colored shadows cast by nearby blocks
Observe Path-Traced Effects
Colored light becomes most visible in shadowed areas and enclosed spaces. Build a small room with torches on one wall and watch how the warm light gradually fades across the opposite wall. Experiment with different block materials—wood, stone, and wool each reflect colored light distinctly.
Combine multiple light colors (torches near lanterns) to see how the shader blends illumination. This effect is most dramatic during night cycles and in underground builds.
