Crafting Steel and Using the Blast Furnace

Build the Blast Furnace

The Blast Furnace is a multiblock that turns Iron Ingot and Coal Coke into Steel Ingot. Build it from Blast Brick, Blast Brick Slab, and a Blast Furnace Preheater. Place the Blast Furnace block as the controller and form the 3x3x3 shell around it. The Preheater must sit on top and be fed Coal Coke to keep the furnace hot.

Run It

Insert Iron Ingot and Coal Coke into the furnace. It consumes both and outputs Steel Ingot plus Slag as a byproduct. Slag can be crafted into Concrete or used in Clinker Brick recipes. Keep the Preheater stocked — if it runs out of Coal Coke, the Blast Furnace stops.

What Steel Unlocks

Steel Ingot is the gateway to nearly everything: Steel Plate, Steel Scaffolding, Steel Wire, Arc Furnace, Assembler, Metal Press, and Crusher frames. Craft Steel Plate at an Engineer's Workbench or Metal Press. Once you have a steady steel supply, build an Alloy Kiln to make Constantan, Electrum, and other alloys from Copper, Nickel, Silver, and Gold. From there, expand into Arc Furnace smelting and Assembler automation.
