HorrorCraft Shaders FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I turn on HorrorCraft Shaders after installing it?
Open your Shader Options menu in-game, find HorrorCraft in the shader list, and select it. The bodycam effect and darkened lighting will apply immediately to your world.
Why is everything so dark I can barely see?
HorrorCraft intentionally darkens the environment for atmosphere. You can adjust brightness in the shader settings, or bring torches, lanterns, and other light sources to navigate safely.
Can I reduce the camera distortion and glitchy effects?
Yes—open the shader options and look for settings related to video artifacts, distortion, or camera effects, then lower or disable them to your preference.
Does HorrorCraft work with other mods?
HorrorCraft is a shader pack and works alongside most mods, but incompatibilities can occur with mods that heavily modify rendering or lighting. Test your setup and check community reports if you experience issues.
My FPS drops a lot with HorrorCraft enabled. How do I fix it?
Lower your render distance, disable advanced lighting features in the shader settings, reduce shadow quality, or lower your overall graphics settings to balance performance and atmosphere.
Does the bodycam effect work in first-person view only?
Yes, the bodycam lens effect is designed for first-person perspective and will not apply the same way in third-person or other camera modes.
Why do caves look completely black even with torches?
HorrorCraft darkens underground areas significantly to create tension. Place multiple light sources close together, use brighter light blocks, or adjust the cave darkness setting in shader options.
Can I use HorrorCraft in multiplayer servers?
Yes—shaders are client-side only, so you can use HorrorCraft on any server without affecting other players or requiring server permission.
Does HorrorCraft change how mobs look or behave?
No, HorrorCraft only affects lighting, camera angle, and visual distortion; mobs look and act normally, but the darker atmosphere makes them feel more threatening.
What's the best way to explore with HorrorCraft without getting lost?
Carry plenty of torches or lanterns to mark your path, move slowly through dark areas, and consider building well-lit bases as safe zones before venturing into unlit biomes or caves.
