Create Dramatic Lighting for Nighttime Builds
Understand Day/Night Contrast Settings
Heliox Shaders includes adjustable brightness for daytime and darkness levels for nighttime. Access these in your shader options to create more pronounced lighting differences.
Increase Nighttime Darkness
Raise the nighttime darkness slider to make nights genuinely dark. This makes torches, lanterns, and other light sources stand out dramatically and creates atmospheric shadows. Ensure your darkness setting doesn't make navigation impossible—you should still see block outlines and terrain.
Enhance Light Source Visibility
With darker nights, colored lighting from torches and glowstone becomes more prominent. Position light sources strategically around your build to create pools of warm, colored illumination. Experiment with different light block types to see how their colors interact with the darker environment.
Test at Different Times
Build a small structure with various lighting arrangements, then use the time command to cycle through day and night. Observe how your lights perform in darkness and adjust intensity settings accordingly for the atmosphere you want.
