Heliox Shaders FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I turn on the shader after installing it?
Open your Video Settings, go to Shaders, and select Heliox Shaders from the list. The shader will activate immediately and you'll see colored lighting and shadows appear in your world.
Why do my shadows look broken or have weird lines in them?
Shadow artifacts often happen when your render distance is too high or your graphics card can't keep up. Try lowering render distance, disabling shadow detail in the shader options, or checking that your GPU drivers are up to date.
Can I use Heliox Shaders with mods that add new blocks?
Yes, Heliox Shaders works with most block-adding mods, but custom blocks may not receive colored lighting the same way vanilla blocks do. Compatibility depends on how the mod is coded, so test it in your world first.
The water reflections are making my game lag. How do I fix this?
Water reflections are performance-heavy; try lowering the reflection quality in the shader settings or reducing your render distance. You can also disable reflections entirely if performance is critical.
Why is my world too bright or too dark even during daytime?
Use the shader's brightness and contrast sliders in the Video Settings menu to adjust how sunlight and ambient light are balanced. You can also tweak these settings per-biome or time of day depending on your preference.
Do colored lights from lamps and torches actually light up blocks around them?
Yes, light sources like torches, lamps, and glowstone emit colored light that tints nearby blocks realistically. The effect is strongest close to the light source and fades with distance.
Is Heliox Shaders compatible with Optifine?
Heliox Shaders is designed to work as a standalone shader pack and may conflict with Optifine's shader features. Use one or the other, not both, to avoid visual glitches and performance issues.
Why do caves look pitch black even with torches?
Underground areas have less ambient light by design in Heliox Shaders. Place more light sources like torches or lanterns to brighten caves, or adjust the ambient light slider in shader settings if you prefer brighter underground areas.
Can I adjust how strong the shadow effect is?
Yes, most shader options include shadow intensity or shadow distance settings that let you make shadows softer, sharper, or less pronounced. Check the shader settings menu in Video Settings to find these controls.
What's the performance impact of using this shader?
Heliox Shaders is moderately demanding due to shadows and water reflections; expect a noticeable FPS drop depending on your GPU. Lowering render distance, disabling reflections, or reducing shadow quality can help maintain playable framerates.
