Using Structures as Bases or Landmarks
Claiming a Structure
Large fortresses and citadels make excellent player bases. Clear out hostile mobs completely, then light the interior thoroughly to prevent respawning. Use the existing stone walls and towers as your foundation—modify rooms as needed since all blocks are vanilla Minecraft.
Navigation and Mapping
Structures serve as excellent landmarks for navigation. Tall citadels are visible from great distances and help you orient yourself in your world. Mark their locations on a map or use coordinates to return easily. The distinctive architecture makes them memorable waypoints.
Resource Gathering
While structures use only vanilla blocks, they contain useful materials. Mine stone, wood from gates, and other building blocks for your own projects. Loot chests provide standard Minecraft resources. Use cleared structures as storage areas or waypoints during long exploration journeys. The existing architecture provides shelter and defense against mobs while you gather resources nearby.
