Foodables Mod — Guide
World Generation
Foodables integrates seamlessly into the Minecraft world through several new natural features. These elements spawn organically in appropriate biomes, encouraging exploration to gather starting seeds and saplings.
Salt Ore
Salt Ore is a vital resource found underground in stone and deepslate layers. * Mining: Drops Salt crystals and provides a small amount of Experience (XP). * Usage: Essential for food preservation and seasoning, particularly in the creation of jerky.
Fruit Trees
Seven types of fruit trees generate naturally across the Overworld: * Apple, Orange, Mango, Banana: Found in temperate and tropical biomes. * Lemon, Lime: Typically found in warmer forest regions. * Peppercorn: Rare trees that provide seasoning ingredients.
Berry Bushes
Two new types of berry bushes can be found in clusters within forest biomes: * Blueberry Bushes: Found in standard and temperate forests. * Blackberry Bushes: Often found in denser forest regions.

Agriculture & Crops
Beyond foraging, players can establish permanent farms for high-yield ingredients. Seeds are primarily obtained by breaking short grass, similar to vanilla wheat seeds.
| Crop | Growth Cycle | Primary Use |
|---|---|---|
| Tomato | Multi-stage vine | Juices, Salads, Sandwiches |
| Lettuce | Ground-based head | Salads, Burgers |
| Brown Onion | Root vegetable | Savory dishes, Stews |
| Red Onion | Root vegetable | Garnish, Salads |
| Garlic | Root vegetable | Seasoning, Health-focused meals |
Harvesting Mechanics
- Tree Harvesting: Unlike vanilla trees where leaves must be fully destroyed, Foodables fruit trees drop their fruit over time as leaves are broken or naturally decay.
- Bush Harvesting: Berries can be harvested by right-clicking the mature bush, leaving the plant intact for future growth.
Mechanics & Progression
Foodables introduces a progression system that rewards players for investing in infrastructure.
- Early Game: Players rely on raw fruits from trees and wild berry bushes. Hunger restoration is low (2-4 points).
- Mid Game: After crafting a Knife and Mortar & Pestle, players can create flour, dough, and sliced vegetables. This allows for basic cooked meals (5-8 hunger points).
- Late Game: With a full suite of tools and a Drying Rack network, players can produce high-saturation Jerky and complex multi-ingredient dishes (9-12+ hunger points).
Nutrition & Saturation
The mod uses a "Smart Saturation" system. While a simple fruit might fill 2 hunger points with low saturation, a meal that uses that same fruit as an ingredient in a complex recipe will provide a much higher saturation-to-hunger ratio, keeping the player full for significantly longer.
Tools & Equipment
To access advanced recipes, players must craft five specialized culinary tools. These tools are used within the crafting grid and often retain durability, allowing for multiple uses.
- Knife: Used for slicing vegetables (e.g., Pumpkin Slices) and portioning meats (e.g., Steak Strips).
- Mortar & Pestle: Essential for grinding grains into flour or crushing herbs and salt.
- Juicer: Used to extract liquids from fruits and vegetables to create always-edible beverages.
- Whisk: Necessary for mixing liquids, eggs, and doughs.
- Crusher: Used for heavy-duty processing of tougher ingredients.
The Drying Rack
The Drying Rack is a specialized block used for food preservation. It comes in 10 wood variants (Oak, Spruce, Birch, Jungle, Acacia, Dark Oak, Mangrove, Cherry, Bamboo, and Pale Oak). * Function: Place raw meats (often combined with salt) onto the rack. Over time, the meat will dry into Jerky. * Benefit: Jerky provides significantly higher saturation and storage benefits compared to standard cooked meats.

Food & Beverages
The mod categorizes food into tiers based on complexity and nutritional value.
Prepared Meals
Complex dishes require multiple stages of preparation, such as creating dough or pre-slicing ingredients. * Fruit Salad: A mix of various fruits in a bowl; high hunger restoration. * Bacon and Eggs: A hearty breakfast meal providing significant saturation. * Fried Egg: A simple early-game protein source made by cooking an egg in a furnace or smoker. * Baked Goods: Includes items like Baked Apple, Baked Carrot, and Baked Pumpkin Slices.
Always-Edible Drinks
Juices and beverages in Foodables have a unique property: they can be consumed even when the player's hunger bar is full. This makes them excellent for managing saturation or gaining minor buffs without needing to wait for hunger to drain. * Available Juices: Apple, Orange, Carrot, Pumpkin, Mango, Tomato, Sweet Berry, and Melon. * Lemonade: A refreshing drink made from lemons and sugar.
Jerky & Dried Foods
Created via the Drying Rack network, these items are the pinnacle of food efficiency. * Steak Jerky / Pork Jerky: High-tier survival food. * Dried Fruits: Lighter snacks with enhanced shelf-life feel.
