Manually Link Parents to a Young Pet

Setting Up Parent Relationships

You can assign parents to any tamed animal, even if they weren't bred in your world. This is useful for pets you've tamed or adopted.

1. Press H to open the pet menu

2. Click Find existing pets to load nearby tamed animals

3. Select the young pet you want to assign parents to

4. Click Add parents

5. Select which animals should be the mother and father from your available pets

Alternative Method with Stick

You can also use a renamed stick to link families:

1. Rename a stick to familytree using an anvil

2. Right-click on a pet with the renamed stick to open the family linking interface

3. Assign parents directly through the screen

Once parents are set, the pet will appear in the family tree and inheritance chain. This doesn't affect the pet's stats or behavior—it's purely for genealogy tracking.
