How do I open the pet menu?
Press H to open the Family Tree pet menu. From there you can browse your tamed animals, search for pets, and access all the mod's features like linking parents and exporting family trees.
Why aren't my tamed pets showing up in the list?
Click "Find existing pets" in the menu to load nearby tamed animals into your list—the mod needs to scan for them first. Make sure you're close enough to the pets and that they're actually tamed to you.
Can I manually set parents for a pet I already tamed?
Yes, select a pet and choose "Add parents" to manually link its family. You can also rename a stick to "familytree" and use it on two animals to connect them as parents and child.
Do baby animals get recorded automatically when I breed them?
Yes, when you breed two tamed animals together, the mod automatically records the baby and links it to both parents in the family tree.
What happens to my pet's record if it dies?
Deceased pets stay in your family tree permanently with their lineage intact, so their legacy and breeding history are never lost. You can still see them in the family view and search for them.
How do I find a lost pet's location?
Select the pet in your menu and click "Locate pet" to display its last known coordinates and dimension in chat. This shows where the animal was last recorded, even if it's far away.
Can I export my family tree as a picture?
Yes, select "Export family tree" to save a high-resolution PNG image of your pet's full lineage to your screenshots folder on your computer.
Which pet types does this mod work with?
The mod tracks tamed wolves, cats, parrots, horses, donkeys, mules, and llamas. Other pet types are not currently supported.
Can other players on my server see my pet families?
If viewPolicy is set to EVERYONE_ALL, other players can browse your pet families and lineages, but they cannot see private coordinates or make edits to your records.
Do wolf and cat portraits show their actual colors?
Yes, the mod displays custom portraits that match the exact coat colors of your individual wolves and cats, so each pet's appearance is unique in the family tree view.
