Getting Better Shadows and Depth Perception

Understanding Shadow Settings

Emperial Shaders casts sharp block shadows to improve depth and visual clarity. These shadows make terrain and builds easier to navigate and more visually interesting.

Enhancing Shadow Quality

1. Access shader settings from your graphics menu

2. Find shadow-related options (shadow distance, shadow quality, or shadow softness)

3. Increase shadow distance to see shadows cast from farther away

4. Raise shadow quality or resolution for crisper, more defined shadows

5. Adjust shadow softness if shadows appear too harsh or too blurry

6. Test in varied terrain—mountains, forests, and flat plains show shadows differently

Balancing Shadows and Performance

Higher shadow settings improve depth perception but cost frame rate. Start with medium settings and increase gradually. Very high shadow distances may cause performance drops on lower-end systems. Shadows are most noticeable during morning and evening when the sun is low—visit at these times to evaluate your settings. If shadows look unrealistic or cause banding artifacts, reduce shadow distance slightly.
