Emperial Shaders FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I turn on Emperial Shaders after installing it?
Open your Options menu in-game, go to Video Settings, then select Shaders. Find Emperial Shaders in the list and click it to activate—you'll see the changes apply immediately to your world.
Why are caves still too dark even with this shader?
Open the shader settings (usually by pressing a key like Right Shift or through Video Settings) and look for cave brightness or ambient light options, then increase the value to your preference.
Can I use Emperial Shaders with other mods?
Yes, Emperial Shaders works with most mods, but mods that heavily alter lighting or add custom blocks may cause visual conflicts—test in your world to be sure.
My FPS dropped a lot after installing this. How do I fix it?
Try lowering shadow quality or distance in the shader settings, disabling reflection effects on water, or reducing render distance; these changes have the biggest impact on frame rate.
Do torches and lanterns actually look different with this shader?
Yes—torches and lanterns emit colored light (warm orange/yellow glows) that spreads realistically onto nearby blocks instead of just being bright spots.
Why does the sky look too bright during the day?
Adjust the sky brightness or exposure setting in the shader options to reduce glare; this is separate from overall brightness and won't affect cave visibility.
Can I adjust shadows to be softer or sharper?
Yes—most shader settings include shadow softness or penumbra options that let you control how sharp or blurry block shadows appear.
Does this shader work on servers or only single-player?
Shaders only work on single-player worlds and local servers; multiplayer servers cannot force shaders on clients, but you can use it while playing on a server.
What's the difference between this and fullbright? Why not just use fullbright?
Emperial Shaders keeps dynamic lighting and shadows for depth and atmosphere, whereas fullbright removes all shadows and looks flat—this shader balances visibility with visual quality.
Do I need to change any Minecraft settings for this shader to work best?
Make sure Smooth Lighting is enabled in Video Settings, and set your render distance to at least 12 chunks for shadows to look natural; other settings are optional based on your preference.
