Cops and Robbers Escape from Alcatraz Map FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I start a game? Do I need to set anything up first?
Load the map and have all players join the world. One player should claim the warden role (usually done through a command or sign at spawn), and everyone else will spawn as prisoners in their cells. The warden can then begin issuing orders and starting the daily routine.
What happens if the warden isn't paying attention?
Prisoners can use the distraction to explore restricted areas, find secret passages, and plan their escape without immediate detection. However, the warden will eventually notice missing inmates during roll call or when alarms are triggered, so timing is crucial.
How do prisoners actually escape? Are there multiple routes?
The map includes several hidden escape routes and secret passageways scattered throughout the prison that prisoners must discover through exploration. Each route typically requires prisoners to avoid guards, solve simple puzzles, or navigate dangerous areas like the ocean surrounding the island.
What triggers the alarm and what happens after?
Alarms trigger when prisoners break into restricted areas, attempt to leave their cells without permission, or are caught by the warden. Once triggered, a high-speed chase begins where the warden hunts down escapees, and prisoners must reach an escape route before being caught.
Can prisoners work together to escape, or is it every person for themselves?
Prisoners can and should coordinate with each other—the map is designed for group gameplay where teamwork helps distract the warden and cover each other's movements. However, only those who reach an escape route successfully complete their escape.
What are the recreation games and when do we play them?
Games like tic-tac-toe and traffic lights are available during scheduled yard time, which the warden controls as part of the daily routine. These games serve as cover for prisoners to scout the area and plan escapes while appearing to follow orders.
Does the warden have special tools or commands to control prisoners?
The warden can issue orders through signs or commands, lock/unlock cell doors, and patrol the facility to catch misbehaving inmates. The warden's authority is enforced through the map's mechanics, not through creative mode powers.
What's the best strategy for prisoners to avoid getting caught?
Follow the warden's orders during routine activities to avoid suspicion, scout escape routes during recreation time when the warden is distracted, and coordinate with other prisoners to create diversions. Moving quietly and avoiding guard towers helps prevent early detection.
Can the game be played with just two players, or do you need a full group?
The map works best with at least three players (one warden and two or more prisoners), but it can technically be played with two if both players agree on the challenge level. Fewer prisoners make it easier for the warden to monitor everyone.
What should I do if I get caught during an escape attempt?
Getting caught typically returns you to your cell or a punishment area, and the warden may increase security or restrict your movements for the rest of that round. You can attempt another escape later if the warden's attention shifts elsewhere.
