Compass Coordinates Plugin FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I start using this plugin?
Hold a compass in your main hand or off-hand, and your coordinates will appear in the action bar at the bottom of your screen. Put the compass away or switch to another item, and the coordinates will disappear.
Can I see coordinates without holding a compass?
No—the plugin is designed to hide coordinates until you hold a compass. This is intentional to promote fair exploration on servers. You can still open the F3 debug screen while holding a compass to see vanilla location numbers.
Why aren't my coordinates showing up?
Make sure you're holding a standard compass in either your main hand or off-hand, and check that the plugin is enabled in the config file. If it's still not working, verify the compass is a vanilla compass and not a custom item.
How do I change the coordinate format or colors?
Edit the `text` value in `plugins/CompassCoords/config.yml` using placeholders like `%x`, `%y`, `%z` for coordinates, and color codes like `&6` or `§6` for gold text. The configuration guide lists all available placeholders and color options.
What do the direction labels (N, NE, E, etc.) mean?
These are cardinal directions based on which way you're facing. You can customize all eight direction labels in the `directions` section of the config file to match your language or preference.
How often does the action bar update?
By default it updates every 5 ticks (4 times per second). You can change this in the config by adjusting the `delay` value—lower numbers update faster, higher numbers update slower.
Can I show decimal coordinates instead of whole numbers?
Yes—use the placeholders `%dx`, `%dy`, `%dz` instead of `%x`, `%y`, `%z` in your `text` configuration. These will display coordinates with one decimal place.
Does this plugin affect server performance?
No—the plugin only hides and displays information without altering server rules or world data. The update frequency is controlled by the `delay` setting, so you can adjust it if needed.
Will this work if I'm using other plugins or mods?
Yes, the plugin works cleanly without modifying default server files, so it should be compatible with most setups. If you experience conflicts, check that no other plugin is also modifying the action bar or debug screen.
Can I show my rotation (yaw/pitch) in the action bar?
Yes—add the placeholders `%yaw` and `%pitch` for whole numbers, or `%dyaw` and `%dpitch` for one decimal place, to your `text` configuration in the config file.
