CHC Custom Hit Command Plugin FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I set up my first trigger item?
Hold the item you want to use (sword, stick, or any other item), then type /chc sethititem in chat. The plugin will mark that exact item as a trigger weapon. Now when you hit another player with it, your configured command will run.
Can I use the same item for multiple different commands?
No, each trigger item can only have one command assigned to it. If you need multiple commands to run from the same item, you'll need to chain them together in a single command or use a command that calls a macro/function.
What does %hitted_player% actually do?
It's a placeholder that automatically replaces itself with the username of the player you just hit. For example, if your command is `/duel %hitted_player%`, hitting Steve will run `/duel Steve` on the server.
Can I make the command run as the player instead of the server?
Yes, the plugin lets you choose whether commands execute as the attacking player or from the server console. This is useful if you want the player to trigger a command they normally wouldn't have permission to use, or vice versa.
How do I see if my hit commands are actually working?
Enable the optional logging system in the plugin's config file, then check the logs when you test hitting another player. The logs will show you whether the hit was detected and which command ran, helping you spot configuration mistakes.
Do the particle effects show up for everyone or just the person who got hit?
The colorful particles spawn around the player who was hit and are visible to all players on the server who can see that location, making the action visible to spectators and nearby players.
Can I use items from other plugins as trigger items?
Yes, you can mark custom items from other plugins as trigger items as long as you're holding them when you run /chc sethititem. The plugin identifies items by their exact properties, so named or enchanted items work fine.
What happens if I hit someone with a trigger item but nothing occurs?
Check that you're hitting another player (not mobs), that you're using the exact same item you marked with /chc sethititem, and enable logging to see if the hit is being detected. Also verify your command syntax is correct and the player has permission to execute it if needed.
Do I need to restart the server after setting up a new trigger item?
No, you can use /chc reload to refresh the plugin's configuration without restarting. This lets you test new trigger items and commands immediately.
Can I customize the messages players see when a hit command triggers?
Yes, the plugin supports modern text formatting and classic color codes so you can customize all chat messages. Edit the message settings in the config file and use /chc reload to apply changes.
