Icy Caves spawn beneath snowy biomes at various depths. Look for thick layers of ice blocks forming cave systems—these are your target areas. The frozen terrain above ground is a reliable indicator of what lies below.

Mining Through Ice to Find Ores

Ores in Icy Caves are completely buried under ice blocks, requiring you to peek through the frozen floor to spot valuable deposits beneath. Use a pickaxe to carefully mine away ice layers and expose the ore veins hidden underneath.

Work methodically: break ice blocks in a grid pattern, pausing frequently to look down through gaps. This reveals ore positions before you commit to full excavation. Watch for glints or color changes in the stone below—these signal ore presence.

Efficient Harvesting

Once you've identified an ore vein through the ice, mine downward to access it. Bring a Fortune-enchanted pickaxe to maximize drops from the extra ores these caves contain. The ice itself can be collected with a Silk Touch tool if you want to preserve it, though it melts quickly near torches and lava.
