Prevent Join Spam and Control Player Limits Across Your Network

Managing Network Capacity

BungeeCord includes built-in tools to prevent connection abuse and control how many players can join your network at once, protecting your backend servers from being overwhelmed.

Configuring Join Limits

1. Open the BungeeCord configuration file.

2. Set a maximum player limit for the entire proxy (not per-server, but network-wide).

3. Configure throttle settings to limit how many connection attempts are allowed from a single IP address within a time window.

4. Save and restart BungeeCord for changes to take effect.

How Throttling Works

When a player (or bot) attempts to join too many times in quick succession from the same IP, BungeeCord temporarily blocks further connection attempts from that address. This prevents join spam and DDoS-style attacks that could crash your backend servers.

Monitoring Connections

Use /glist to see current player count across all servers. If you notice suspicious connection patterns, check your proxy logs for repeated failed join attempts from specific IPs, then adjust throttle settings accordingly.
