BSLShader FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I open the shader settings menu?
Press Shift + R while in-game to open the BSLShader configuration screen. From there you can adjust lighting, water, ambient occlusion, and color settings in real time.
Why does my water look flat or unrealistic?
Check the water reflection and wave intensity settings in the shader menu—they may be set too low. Increasing these values will add more visible wave animation and reflections to water surfaces.
The shader makes everything too bright. How do I fix this?
Open the shader settings and reduce the lighting intensity or bloom strength values. You can also adjust color balance to fine-tune how bright daytime and shadow areas appear.
What's ambient occlusion and should I turn it on?
Ambient occlusion darkens the corners and edges of blocks to add depth and realism. It's purely visual—enable it if you like the effect, disable it if you prefer flatter lighting or need better performance.
Does BSLShader work on servers?
Yes, the shader can be used on any server. Some servers support automatic shader distribution to players, which means the shader profile downloads when you join—check with your server admin for details.
Why is my game running slowly with this shader?
Shaders are GPU-intensive; reduce bloom strength, disable ambient occlusion, or lower water reflection quality in the settings menu. You can also check that your graphics drivers are up to date.
Can I use BSLShader with other mods that change lighting or water?
BSLShader works with most mods, but conflicts can occur with other shader packs or mods that heavily modify lighting and water rendering. Use only one shader pack at a time.
How do I make shadows softer or sharper?
Open the shader settings and look for shadow or lighting intensity controls. Adjusting these values will change how defined or blended the shadows appear on your blocks and terrain.
What does the color balance setting do?
Color balance lets you shift the overall hue and warmth of your world—useful for making daytime feel warmer or cooler, or adjusting how colors appear under shadows.
Do I need to restart my game after changing shader settings?
No, most shader settings apply instantly or after a few seconds. If a change doesn't appear, try toggling the setting off and on again or reloading your world.
