Mining Geodes Efficiently

Preparation

Bring the appropriate tools before approaching a geode. Diamond pickaxes work for most ore geodes (coal, copper, iron, gold, redstone, lapis, diamonds, and emeralds). For special block geodes made of slime, ice, or honey, any pickaxe will work, though a higher-tier one speeds up collection.

Mining Strategy

Start from the outer shell and work inward. The geode's exterior is made of regular stone or deepslate, which mines quickly. Once you reach the ore or block layer, switch to careful, methodical mining. Avoid using explosives like TNT or creepers near the geode—you'll lose resources to blast damage.

For ore geodes, each block drops its corresponding ore, which you can smelt or process normally. Ice and slime geodes require Silk Touch enchantment if you want to collect the blocks themselves; otherwise, they'll drop nothing when mined.

Resource Management

Bring plenty of empty inventory space. Geodes contain significant ore deposits, so you'll fill up quickly. Consider making multiple trips or using a hopper system if you're mining near your base. Honey geodes are particularly valuable—collect them with Silk Touch to use the honey blocks for building or redstone contraptions.
