Better Blending Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I start using Better Blending after installing it?
The mod works automatically once installed—no setup needed. If you want to customize behavior, open config/better-blending.json in your config folder to adjust blending strength, excluded blocks, or dimension settings, then restart your game.
What's the difference between local and regional blending?
Local blending softens edges between directly neighboring blocks, creating sharp but smooth transitions. Regional blending spreads softer gradients across a wider area, making terrain look more naturally weathered and less abrupt.
Can I use Better Blending on a multiplayer server?
Yes—the mod runs entirely on your client, so you can join any server without needing the mod installed server-side or asking permission.
Does Better Blending work with shader packs?
Better Blending is designed as a client-side alternative to shaders, but compatibility depends on how your shader pack handles textures. Test both together in a small area first; some shader packs may conflict with texture blending.
How do I stop specific blocks from being blended?
Edit config/better-blending.json and add block names to the exclusion list. Excluded blocks will keep their original sharp borders while surrounding blocks still blend normally.
Will Better Blending change my biome grass colors?
No—the mod preserves original biome color tints on tinted surfaces like grass blocks, so your biome's unique appearance stays intact while textures blend smoothly.
Does this mod affect performance or FPS?
Better Blending runs on the client and uses pixel-aligned blending to stay lightweight, but impact depends on your hardware and blending strength settings. You can reduce blending strength in the config if you notice performance drops.
Can I disable blending in specific dimensions?
Yes—open config/better-blending.json and adjust dimension settings to enable or disable blending in the Overworld, Nether, End, or custom modded dimensions individually.
Does Better Blending change block shapes or geometry?
No—it only softens texture borders while keeping blocks perfectly cubic and aligned to Minecraft's pixel grid, so the classic blocky look is preserved.
Why do some blocks still look harsh after enabling the mod?
Check if those blocks are in your exclusion list in config/better-blending.json, or try increasing the blending strength setting. Some block pairs may need stronger regional blending to show noticeable softening.
