Optimize Performance While Maintaining Visual Quality

Understand Performance Impact

Astral Cinema Shaders adds soft illumination and shadow processing, which requires more GPU power than vanilla. Performance varies based on your hardware and world complexity.

Adjust Render Distance

Start by reducing render distance if you experience lag. Lower values decrease the area the shader must process. Find the balance between visual range and smooth gameplay—many players find 12-16 chunks acceptable.

Lower Shadow Quality Settings

In shader options, look for shadow-related sliders. Reducing shadow resolution or softness decreases GPU load while maintaining the cinematic look. The shader's soft shadows remain visible even at lower quality settings.

Disable Optional Effects

If available, toggle off advanced features like volumetric lighting or enhanced water effects during gameplay. Re-enable them for screenshots and videos when performance matters less.

Monitor Frame Rate

Use F3 to check your FPS. Aim for consistent frame rates above 60 FPS for smooth gameplay. If dropping below 30 FPS, reduce settings incrementally until performance stabilizes.

Test Different Configurations

Experiment with various setting combinations. Sometimes a small reduction in multiple areas performs better than heavily cutting one feature.
