Set Up Your First Animal Pen

Placement and Assembly

Animal pens require a two-block setup. Start by placing a smooth stone slab on the ground where you want your pen. This slab acts as the base and must be placed first. Then place your Animal Cage (for land animals) or Animal Container (for water creatures) directly on top of the slab.

Capturing Your First Animal

Once assembled, approach a land animal like a cow, sheep, or chicken. Right-click the animal with an empty Animal Cage in your hand to capture it. The animal will be stored inside the pen block. For aquatic animals like fish or axolotls, use the Animal Container instead.

Retrieving and Moving Your Pen

To pick up the entire pen and move it elsewhere, crouch and break the smooth stone slab at the bottom. The slab will drop as an item, and your pen (with all stored animals) will come with it. You can then place both blocks in a new location and reassemble your pen.

The animal model inside the pen will shrink or grow depending on how many animals you're storing, giving you a visual indicator of pen capacity.
