Protect Underground Bases from Slow Decay

Why Deep Bases Still Need Attention

While blocks decay much slower underground, they still decay over very long periods. If you plan to leave a deep base completely unattended for extended gameplay, decay will eventually affect it. The deeper you build, the slower this happens, but it's not permanent protection.

Use Mobs for Long-Term Security

For deep bases you want to preserve indefinitely:

  • Place villagers or pillagers in protected areas within your base
  • Keep them in small enclosures so they can't wander into danger
  • Ensure at least one mob stays within the protection radius at all times

This is more practical than trying to return frequently to a deep base.

Consider Your Playstyle

If you actively visit your underground base regularly, decay is negligible—your presence prevents it. Only worry about long-term decay if you plan extended absences. For temporary mining operations or short-term shelters, decay is unlikely to be an issue before you move on.
