Alive Advanced Block Decay Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I stop my base from decaying?
Stay near your base or have villagers and pillagers in the area—the mod prevents decay when human mobs are within range. If you're leaving for a long time, keep at least one NPC nearby or build your base deep underground where decay happens much slower.
What blocks decay and what do they turn into?
Almost all solid blocks follow specific decay chains that break them down into natural materials like dirt and grass, except for blocks in the End dimension. Each block type has its own decay path, so wood might decay differently than stone.
Why is my underground base decaying so fast?
If your base is near the surface, decay happens much faster there. Move deeper underground or ensure players or villagers stay nearby to prevent decay entirely.
Do I need to do anything to enable the mod or set it up?
No—the mod works automatically once installed. Blocks in untouched areas will begin decaying according to the mod's rules without any configuration needed.
Can I use this mod to intentionally create ruins?
Yes, you can build a structure and then leave it untouched to watch it naturally decay into a ruin over time. The deeper you place it, the slower the decay, so surface-level builds collapse faster.
Do players have to stay in the same chunk for decay to stop?
The mod prevents decay when players, villagers, or pillagers are nearby, but the exact range depends on the mod's settings. Generally, staying in or near the area will protect blocks from breaking down.
Will this mod cause lag or performance issues?
The mod is designed to run efficiently, but having many decay processes happening simultaneously in a large world could impact performance. Building deep underground or keeping NPCs near your structures reduces active decay and helps maintain performance.
Can I use this with other mods that add custom blocks?
The mod applies decay chains to almost all solid blocks, so most custom blocks from other mods should decay. However, some mods may have blocks the decay mod doesn't recognize—test your setup to be sure.
What happens to my base if I go inactive for weeks?
Without players or NPCs nearby, your surface-level structures will decay much faster than deep underground ones. Place villagers or pillagers in your base before leaving, or build underground to slow the decay significantly.
Can End dimension blocks decay?
No—the mod specifically excludes End dimension blocks from decaying, so your End bases and structures will remain unchanged.
