Preserve Your Base from Decay
Keep Blocks Safe with Presence
The most reliable way to prevent decay is to stay near your structures. Blocks within a certain radius of you will not decay as long as you remain close. This makes your actively-used base completely safe—decay only affects abandoned areas.
Set Up Permanent Protection
If you want to leave a base unattended, place human mobs nearby:
- Villagers are ideal: breed them, trap them in a small enclosure, and position them throughout your build
- Pillagers also work but are harder to contain safely
- Keep mobs in place using fences, walls, or platforms so they don't wander away
As long as at least one mob stays within the protection radius, surrounding blocks will resist decay. This is especially useful for farms, storage areas, and decorative structures you want to preserve long-term.
Monitor Depth
Remember that surface-level blocks decay much faster than deep underground ones. If your base is near the surface and you can't maintain mob presence, expect faster deterioration. Consider building deeper or ensuring constant player or mob activity in shallow bases.
