Create Intentional Ruins and Decay Effects
Design Structures to Decay Beautifully
You can use decay mechanics intentionally to create atmospheric ruins. Build structures near the surface where decay is fastest, then abandon them. Over time, they'll naturally transform into piles of dirt and grass, creating an overgrown, post-apocalyptic aesthetic without manual terraforming.
Plan Your Decay Path
Since blocks follow specific decay chains, you can predict roughly what your structure will look like after decay. Solid blocks become basic materials like dirt and grass, so plan builds with this in mind:
- Use blocks that decay into visually appealing materials
- Build at surface level for faster, more dramatic transformation
- Leave structures completely unattended—no players or mobs nearby
Raid Sites and Abandoned Villages
Deserted raid outposts and pillager structures naturally decay into small dirt mounds over time. You can accelerate this effect by building your own structures in similar styles and leaving them exposed. This creates dynamic, changing landscapes that feel lived-in and then abandoned.
