Technical Details

Absent by Design is built for the Forge and NeoForge mod loaders. Because it uses vanilla textures, it has a very small file size and minimal impact on game performance.

  • No New Items: The mod does not add new items or entities, only block variants.
  • Resource Pack Friendly: It is compatible with every resource pack that modifies vanilla block textures.
  • Mod Compatibility: Works seamlessly alongside other decoration mods like Chipped or Quark, though some overlap in block types may occur.

Block Variants

The mod adds hundreds of new blocks categorized into four main types. Each block inherits the properties (hardness, blast resistance, tool requirements) of its parent material.

Slabs and Stairs

These variants allow for more detailed roofing, flooring, and structural transitions using materials previously restricted to full blocks. Notable additions include: * Concrete: All 16 colors. * Terracotta: All 16 colors. * Glass: Clear and all 16 stained varieties. * Wool: All 16 colors. * Natural Blocks: Coarse Dirt, Snow, Netherrack, and Magma. * End Materials: End Stone and End Stone Bricks. * Ores & Minerals: Gold, Obsidian, Crying Obsidian, and Amethyst. * Mushrooms: Red Mushroom, Brown Mushroom, and Mushroom Stem.

Walls

Walls provide a thinner vertical profile than full blocks and connect to adjacent blocks. The mod adds walls for: * Stone Types: Smooth Stone, Stone, and various Bricks. * Nether Materials: Netherrack, Red Nether Brick, and Quartz. * End Materials: End Stone and Purpur. * Decorative: All 16 colors of Concrete and Terracotta.

Fences and Gates

Fences added by this mod function identically to vanilla fences, providing a 1.5-block high collision box. Gates are also provided for most fence types to allow player passage. * Log Fences: Stripped and regular versions of all vanilla logs (Oak, Birch, Spruce, etc.). * Mineral Fences: Quartz, Red Nether Brick, and Gold. * Colored Fences: All 16 colors of Concrete and Wool.

Crafting and Mechanics

Crafting Recipes

All blocks follow the standard vanilla crafting patterns. For example, placing 6 Concrete blocks in a stair shape will yield 4 Concrete Stairs.

  • Stairs: 6 blocks in a "stair" pattern (yields 4).
  • Slabs: 3 blocks in a horizontal row (yields 6).
  • Walls: 6 blocks in a 2x3 vertical rectangle (yields 6).
  • Fences: 4 blocks and 2 sticks (yields 3).
  • Gates: 2 blocks and 4 sticks (yields 1).

Stonecutter Support

For stone-based materials (Concrete, End Stone, etc.), the mod fully supports the Stonecutter. This allows players to create 1 stair or 2 slabs from a single block, providing a more efficient alternative to the crafting table.

Diagonal Fences Compatibility

In versions 1.19.4 and higher, Absent by Design fences are fully compatible with the Diagonal Fences mod. This allows the new fences to connect diagonally, creating smoother angles for paths and enclosures.
