A Xess Keycards Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I craft a keycard?
Keycards are created through the security network interface rather than a crafting table. Open the network menu, create or select a security group, and generate new keycards with custom clearance levels assigned to them.
Can I use the same keycard on multiple doors?
Yes, if all those doors are linked to the same security network and the keycard has the required clearance level, it will work on any reader in that network.
What happens if I delete a security group?
All keycards, readers, and receivers tied to that group become inactive and will no longer grant access. Make sure you're certain before deleting a group, as this action cannot be undone.
Do wireless receivers need line of sight to card readers?
No, the wireless connection works through blocks and across distances, so you can hide receivers behind walls or far from the reader without breaking the link.
How do I change a player's clearance level after giving them a keycard?
Edit the clearance level in the security network interface, and the change applies immediately to all readers in that network—you don't need to give the player a new card.
Can I set up a keycard door that requires multiple cards to open?
The mod supports linking multiple readers to one receiver, so you can place several card readers at the same entrance and require players to scan multiple keycards in sequence.
Why isn't my keycard opening the door?
Check that the keycard's clearance level matches or exceeds the reader's required level, that the reader and receiver are properly linked, and that both are part of the same security network.
Can I customize what the keycard looks like?
You can assign custom names and badge icons to clearance levels in the network interface, which appear on keycards and readers, but the physical item model itself cannot be changed.
Does this mod work in single-player, or is it only for multiplayer?
The mod works in both single-player and multiplayer worlds—it's equally useful for protecting personal vaults in single-player or managing faction bases in multiplayer roleplay.
What redstone signal does the wireless receiver output?
When a valid keycard is scanned, the receiver outputs a redstone signal that you can connect to doors, pistons, or other mechanisms; the signal strength and duration depend on your network configuration.
