Optimizing Performance on Lower-End Hardware

Identify Performance Options

Open shader settings and look for performance-related toggles. Zepholume includes options to reduce shadow quality, lower ambient occlusion detail, or disable certain post-processing effects without removing the shader entirely.

Disable Advanced Shadow Features

Shadow rendering is often the most demanding feature. Look for shadow distance, shadow resolution, or shadow softness controls. Reducing shadow distance (how far shadows render) or resolution (pixel quality of shadows) significantly improves frame rate while maintaining the soft shadow aesthetic.

Reduce Ambient Occlusion and Effects

Ambient occlusion adds depth to crevices and corners. Lowering its radius or disabling it entirely frees up processing power. Similarly, check for bloom, glow, or post-processing toggles that can be scaled back.

Monitor Frame Rate

Use F3 debug screen to watch FPS while adjusting each setting. Make one change at a time so you understand which settings matter most for your hardware. Aim for your target frame rate, then work backward from there.
