Navigating Badlands Mesashafts vs. Underground Mineshafts
Key Structural Differences
Badlands mesashafts feature distinct layouts and visual designs compared to traditional underground mineshafts. Mesa mineshafts integrate with Badlands terrain, using terracotta and canyon structures as part of their design. Underground mineshafts maintain classic wooden beam aesthetics but with reworked, more complex layouts.
Finding Each Type
Underground mineshafts generate in standard stone and deepslate biomes below surface level. Badlands mesashafts spawn exclusively within Badlands biomes, often integrated into canyon walls and mesa formations. Ocean and river biomes no longer generate mineshafts unnaturally beneath them.
Exploration Approach
Each mineshaft type requires different navigation strategies. Underground mineshafts have traditional tunnel networks with wooden supports. Mesashafts use natural canyon terrain, requiring careful climbing and navigation around elevation changes. Both contain archaeology spots, rare minecarts, and improved loot chests.
Loot Consistency
Both mineshaft types contain the same upgraded chest rewards: haste potions, Fortune and Efficiency enchanted books, and TNT supplies. The primary difference is environmental—adapt your approach based on terrain type, but expect similar resource quality regardless of location.
