Looting a Better Dungeon Safely: Room-by-Room Tactics

Clearing Rooms in Order

Work through the dungeon one room at a time instead of running ahead. Enter, light the room fully, then deal with any spawner before touching chests. Spawners sit in the middle of rooms or behind cobblestone walls, so scan for the cage before you commit. Break the spawner with a pickaxe once the immediate mobs are dead.

Chests are placed against walls, in corners, and inside small side alcoves. Open them only after the room is lit and clear, because opening a chest in the dark usually means fighting while your inventory fills.

Handling Traps and Vertical Drops

Better Dungeons uses verticality: stairwells, open shafts, and ledges over lower floors. Before stepping onto any ledge, place a torch and look down — a drop into an unlit lower level is the most common way to die here. Bridge across gaps with cobblestone rather than jumping.

If you fall to a lower floor, do not panic-dig upward. Find the stairwell and climb back the way the dungeon intends. Mark your entry point with a torch on the floor so you can identify it from below.

Empty your inventory of junk before a deep run. The loot volume is high, and running out of space mid-fight forces you to abandon items.
