Distinguishing Natural Caves from Player-Built Structures
Understand What You're Seeing
With natural blocks invisible, both natural caves and player bases appear as empty space. You need to identify which is which by looking at structure and organization.
Identify Natural Caves
Natural caves show:
- Chaotic, irregular shapes with no clear geometry
- Random void patterns with no walls or defined boundaries
- No artificial blocks like doors, stairs, or crafting tables
- Absence of lighting (no torches placed by players)
Spot Player Structures
Player-built rooms display:
- Straight walls, floors, and ceilings with clear right angles
- Organized block placement in consistent patterns
- Functional blocks — chests, furnaces, enchanting tables, beds
- Intentional lighting from torches or lamps
- Symmetry or deliberate design rather than random formations
Use Context Clues
Look for pathways connecting structures, or multiple rooms arranged together. Natural caves are isolated voids; bases are connected networks of purposeful spaces.
